Clinical Evidence: The Impact of Hemp Seed on Liver and Metabolic Health
Hemp seed doesn’t just fuel the body, it protects it. Clinical research shows it restores liver health, balances metabolism, and reduces internal inflammation at the source.

Figure 1: Hemp seed helped reduce weight gain, liver size, and bad cholesterol in mice on a high-fat diet. It also improved the balance between good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol. Images show the livers looked healthier with hemp. Data shown as average ± SD. p < 0.05 means the difference is statistically significant.

Hemp Seed Coffee Helps Control Body Weight and Protect the Liver
In a 2020 study, scientists investigated how hemp seed supplementation influenced health markers in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). As shown in Figure 1, hemp seed supported healthier weight, liver condition, and cholesterol levels.
Hemp Seed Reduces Weight Gain and Liver Stress
- In Figure 1A, mice on a high-fat diet rapidly gained weight. But those receiving hemp seed (HFD + HEMP) gained far less, similar to the control group.
- Figures 1B and 1C show that hemp seed reduced liver weight and liver-to-body weight ratio, key signs of better liver health.

Healthier Cholesterol Levels
- Hemp seed lowered cholesterol and triglycerides (Figures 1E–F) and improved the HDL/LDL ratio (Figure 1G), supporting better heart health.

Real Liver Changes
- Figure 1D shows liver images. The HFD group’s liver appears swollen and pale, while the HFD + HEMP liver looks healthier, closer to control.

Figure 2: Hemp seed lowered liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST, ALP), markers of liver stress, and reduced fat deposits in liver tissue. This shows how hemp seed helps protect the liver in a high-fat diet.

Hemp Seed Supports Liver Enzymes and Cell Structure
Hemp seed didn’t just support weight and cholesterol — it also helped protect the liver’s biochemistry and cellular health.
Better Liver Enzyme Levels
- Figures 2A to 2C show markers (ALT, ALP, AST) that rise when the liver is stressed or damaged. In the HFD group, these markers were high. Hemp seed (HFD + HEMP) helped bring them closer to normal.

Less Fat Build-Up in Liver Cells
- The histology images in Figures 2D and 2E reveal clear differences: the HFD group’s liver tissue had large fat deposits (yellow arrows). Hemp seed reduced this fat accumulation, keeping liver cells healthier.
